Yellowbrick combines the appearance of a shawlette with the ease of a cowl. It starts out worked flat like a top-down shawl, and is then joined and worked in the round to the bottom edge. I call these hybrid patterns, “cowlettes.”

Yellowbrick alternates marled sections of stockinette with eyelet stripes of mohair for a light and lofty fabric with a fuzzy halo glow. The twisted rib border incorporates a smocked chevron pattern (like yellow bricks), and shaping that coaxes the bottom edge into elegant points.

MITERED HEIGHT (center-front): 21”/52.5 cm

MATERIALS
YARN:
400 yds/365 m of light fingering weight yarn
450 yds/411 m of lace weight mohair or mohair blend.

Sample shown was knit with La Bien Aimee Cashmerino (75% Merino, 15% Cashmere goat, 10% Nylon; 474 yds/433 m per 100 grams) in Yellow Brick Road and Mohair Silk (70% Mohair, 30% Silk; 547 yards/500 m per 50 grams) in Lise.

When choosing yarn, a light yarn with good drape in the finished fabric will work well for the light fingering weight yarn and any lace or cobweb weight yarn with a fuzzy halo will work well for the lace weight.

NEEDLES:

  • US 5/3.75 mm, one 24”/60 cm circular needle, or size required to obtain gauge
  • optional - one needle 2-3 sizes larger for binding off loosely cable needle in US 5/3.75 mm or smaller

NOTIONS: 23 stitch markers, a needle for weaving ends
