The YPSsweater kids is, like its bigger women’ version, an everyday favorite wardrobe staple, easy to style and easy to wear. The name YPS is short for Ypsilon (the German word for the letter “Y”, as the YPStop reminds of this letter) and it’s part of the Yps-Capsule-Collection (for adults: YPStop, YPScardigan, for kids: YPSdress, YPScardigan)

The construction is unique, it’s worked bottom up, starting with a split hem, next the body is worked in the round, then separated at the underarm to shape back and fronts using short rows. Then, stitches for the sleeves are cast on and worked together with the upper fronts and back in garter stitch to be joined at shoulders with the 3-needle method (or grafting). Pattern contains optional instructions for using the hybrid method for working the upper part first and finishing the sweater top down. Helpful schematic sketches are provided for the unique instructions.

EASE
Sizing is a guide only and you should pick the finished measurement size closest to the child’s measurements
plus 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) of positive ease. The sweater has a relaxed fit. But as children grow quickly, you can’t go wrong with knitting a larger size!

Circular needle to obtain gauge: recommended 4,5 mm (US 7) with a length at least of 80 cm (32 inches) //
Additional smaller needle 3,5 mm (US 4) if you like to add cuffs
And additional needle (similar size to larger needle or use the smaller needle) for 3-needle bind-off (if not using grafting)

GAUGE
19 sts x 30 rounds / rows = 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) in stockinette stitch, blocked
