This pattern is a PDF, written in English for intermediate knitters knitting flat on two needles. It comes in two parts:

  1. General instructions, which include: Body and leg variations, assembly instructions, special stitch and technique instructions

  2. Specific animal instructions for shaping animal heads and tails, and adding animal-specific details

The zebra isn’t hard if you’re comfortable switching between black and white every other row. The mane and tail can be done in fringe stitch or crochet chain loops. If you’re feeling especially creative, you can knit the body, head, and legs all in white and then manually add the stripes using duplicate stitch or Swiss darning. This gives the stripes a more organic, natural look, but it does take a bit more time.

You need to have…
• Yarn in desired color and weight (~3oz/50g for sport weight; ~12oz/350g for worsted) – about half in black and half in white
• Dark contrast yarn for eyes and nostrils
• Knitting needles at least 2 sizes smaller than those recommended for the yarn being used
• Stuffing
• Crochet hook for fringe stitch or crochet loops
• Tapestry needle

You need to know (or learn)…
• Stockinette stitch
• Increase and decrease stitches
• Mattress stitch for sewing seams
• Fringe stitch or crochet chain loops
• Two-color cast on (optional)
