Zia Zinnia evokes the zinnia flower with a relaxing pattern of easy-to-memorize repeats. The shawl builds quickly using DK-weight yarn. You’ll love how this intricate-looking shawl emerges from the simple stitch designs.

This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.

Yarn: Approximately 215 grams/ 645 yards/ 590 meters DK- weight yarn. The sample was worked with Malabrigo Silky Merino in “Light Hyacinth.” This is a DK-weight yarn with 51% silk/49% merino, 150 yards/137 meters/50g. A few alternative wool/silk blends are listed above but there are many more out there if you want the sheen and drape of the sample. Other wool or wool-blend yarns would also work well for this design. Cotton or bamboo blends may drape differently than as shown in the sample.

Gauge/Tension: 20 stitches and 26 rows to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch. Gauge is not tremendously important, but if your gauge differs, the finished size and yarn usage may vary.

Needles: US 8/5.0 mm or size needed to obtain gauge, plus one size larger just for the bind-off. The shawl is worked flat. It is possible to knit the shawl entirely on straight needles, but it will be more comfortable to use a long circular needle so that the stitches can spread out as the shawl grows. The sample was worked on a 40”/100 cm needle.

Notions: 16 stitch markers. Small loops of yarn may be used if you do not have enough stitch markers.
