This pattern is written for use with any gauge of yarn. Whereas most patterns are written for a specific gauge, with the number of total stitches varied to achieve different circumferences, this pattern varies the number of total stitches based on the gauge of the yarn chosen. The instructions will produce a circumference between 22 and 28 inches, depending on the exact yarn and needle size chosen, but it is basically a “one size fits all” pattern.

To avoid swatching, use a needle size at least two sizes larger than recommended on the chosen yarn which will give a looser gauge and compensate for the cables’ effect on gauge. When casting on from the pattern, choose the stitch count that coincides with the gauge listed on the chosen yarn.

I made two versions of this pattern: one with chunky yarn and one with sport weight yarn. Both turned out totally different but I really like them both.

Happy knitting!
