Ziggy Waves Scarf
This scarf features five colours, and is great for using up leftovers. Aside from the main colour (which takes around 3/4 of a ball of sock/ light-fingering yarn), you only need around a third of a ball of each of the other 4 colours. The brioche and zigzag sections benefit from strong contrast colours. Whereas other parts of the scarf can use gentler contrasts, as well as bold choices – whatever you prefer. The two colours marked ‘strong contrast’ can be the same yarn if you like.
Blocking is essential for a patter like this – to open up the holes, to achieve the required length, and to show off the colours in areas like the honeycomb and brioche.
Before you start, if you’ve not knitted a 2 colour icord before, and picked up two colours of stitches from it, it’s worth trying this (part 1) over 20 stitches before you dive into the whole scarf. The same goes for 2-colour brioche. However the rest is more straightforward.
