One of the traditions at college reunions for my alma mater is the Alumnae Parade. Classes from oldest to youngest march (or get rides in vintage cars for the oldest) to the yearly alumnae meeting wearing Suffragette White with accessories in our class colors. Almost five years ago, at my last “official” reunion, I had a conversation with a couple of classmates that led me to find the right yarn and make this scarf. As I write this, it’s early January of 2021 and reunion this year will be virtual - with each of us posting pictures on social media of ourselves in white, with touches of green or yellow or red or purple, instead of marching together. I’ll be wearing my version of this scarf, and maybe some of my fellow alums will be wearing their own versions. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to be meet in person again in 2026, but I’ll be wearing the scarf again either way

The pattern is free because I always intended to share it with my classmates. It’s a really simple, fringed scarf, but the Berlini Ladder Yarns (additional yarn possibilities are listed in the pattern) come in a great variety of solids and multi-colored options, with or without the glitter option, and they are what makes the pattern.

I used 2 balls and came up with a scarf about 7 inches (17.75 cm) wide by 67 inches (170 cm) long. It’s a great size for me, but I’m 61 in/155 cm tall, so use more or less yarn as desired to adjust for your height and desired look.

Knit flat in garter stitch with a simple fringe added after construction. I chose to use the recommended US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles, but this could easily be made on larger needles if you want a looser stitch.

I’m hoping to find a friend who knows more about crocheting than I do to verify my “guesswork” crochet version, and I’ll update the pattern with that when I do. Because not all of my classmates knit.
