Traditional blue and white porcelain inspired me to make this shawl design as an entry for the MY PLACE competition by KDD&Co.

I developed an “onion pattern” with brioche stitches in Milarrochy colourways Tarbet and Hirst which I felt resemble the characteristic blue and white of porcelain the most.

Brioche is a wonderful technique that easily looks spectacular but isn´t that complicated at all. The resulting fabric is squishy and springy and soft.

In contrast to the pattern panel stands a simple striped triangle which was a very satisfactory and addictive knit.

Two-coloured I-cord edges and bind-off give a clean finish.

The size of this shawl design can easily be adjusted by adding or omitting a multiple of 14 stitches before reaching the brioche section. Directions are given in the pattern.

For this sample I needed 4 skeins of both colourways with 3,75 mm needles.

Written intructions.
