Poland has rich and varied history of traditional folk embroidery that spans across history and diverse regions, and tells stories of place, care, artistry and celebration. The shape and form of traditional Polish embroidery appeared on clothing and domestic textiles like bedding and tablecloths, and was used for celebrations like weddings and cultural festivals, as well as adding colour and craft to the mundane and everyday.
Shapes and forms found in traditional folk embroidery demonstrate geometric precision, stylized symbols, bold features, subtle highlights, florals, textures, and above all joy in celebrating artistry and life.
The Polish Collection Part 2 draws from embroidery across various geographical regions around Poland from mountainous southern Małopolska, to eastern border regions, as well as the central areas where textiles later became a huge industry. This collection interprets traditional forms of flowers, stars, leaves, abstract geometries and textured embroidery techniques into a contemporary knit aesthetic that will draw admiring glances from those around you. Let’s have fun and knit a bit of history together! Included in the collection are six sweaters and one vest.
