Started carding some washed CVM from stash. It was very sticky. Decided to dye some of it so I did one batch with some old sapphire blue dye and one with teal dye in the crockpot. The batts I finished carding will also be dyed and I’m planning to use some dish soap in the dye water and remove them while the water is still hot in order to help remove some of the sticky lanolin but still preserve the carding work I’ve already done.
We’ll have to see how that goes. The two batches that I dyed and washed/rinsed feel much better.

Have a full box of carded batts and have been dyeing a little each day to add to the fleece available to card.

Put the last of the sticky wool in a dye pot with a little bit of soap and some teal and purple dye.
At the same time I celebrated the start of spring break by carding up the last of this portion of fleece that I had separated for carding. One batch has been through the carder twice, most of it has been through only once. After I get the last of it out of the dye pot I’ll have a little more to card. But the end is in sight for this carding project.

After a few month hiatus I am slowly working on the third pass with these batts. Wondering if there is really a difference between two passes and three. I might start spinning two batts (one of each) and alternating strips from the two just to find out if it’s worth it.

All batts done with three passes. Lots of neps, probably from weak tips. Fleece was 8.50/lb so I’m not unhappy with that. The neps in this fleece were very easy to remove as I spun. Total fleece used was 853 g or 30.1 ounces. I didn’t weigh the batts, but will weigh the final yarn.
