First yarn drop spindles

Notes

When I looked today on Etsy to see when I bought my first drop spindle I was very surprised to see it was in 2013! Wow this took me a long time to actually make some yarn. I bought my first drop spindle from Magical Moons and they sent Louet Northern Lights Wool Tops Natural White roving with the top whorl spindle. I got very discouraged trying to learn on my own, even watching YouTube and purchasing a great book “Respect the Spindle” by Abby Franquemont. In 2015 I joined a spinning group, I went once and everyone was nice and it was nice to see the spinning wheels and a couple drop spindle users but I realized I was in over my head. I thought I didn’t like drop spindling and would probably never be able to afford a spinning wheel. I saw one person using a Turkish spindle and kept thinking I would like one of those because it makes the center pull ball automatically when spinning. In March of this year I won a Snyder Turkish Spindle in Yarns at Yinhoo hosted TaprootMAL. Sara has the podcast, website and Ravelry group Yarns at Yinhoo. She sent me some of her rolags that she blended along with the Turkish Drop Spindle. I refreshed my memory, watched YouTube videos, and revisited the book Respect the Spindle. I spun some of that wool from Sara on the Turkish spindle and found spinning on that spindle to be way different than the drop spindle I had tried to learn to use. I then got out my old drop spindle and decided to take the hook off and sand down the pointed end of spindle and make an indented ring so that I could use it as a bottom whirl. I did much better spinning on it this time. When I got about the same size ball of one ply spun I am now plying the two together. I took bunch of pictures. I bought he nostepinne in pictures from The Wood Turnery on Etsy in 2015.

I started a scarf with the first homespun center pull ball of my two ply - here is the project page http://www.ravelry.com/projects/maggiescorner/my-first-ho...
