12 dent reed. 4 in one dent, 4 in the next dent and 10 empty dents.
Used leftover mercerized cotton, Dance Rustic Silk, and a brown and blue rayon coned yarn as warp for the chenille. The cotton was used in a knit and crochet tee, the rustic silk was from another tee, and the brown and blue rayon was from a tabard vest that I wove early in my weaving career. Added in another spirit yarn that looks like a silk and cotton blend. So the stash busting continues!
I wound the warp with two threads at a time. It was a fast wind and a fast sley, and would have been faster if I had wound the warp with four threads at a time.
Next up--threading the heddles.

Heddles threaded this evening. Now just need to tie on and wind onto the back beam. I should be throwing the shuttle by this weekend.

Finished the first set of chenille and it is off the loom. Now I’ll wash it. Much of the yarn is so old that I don’t want to cut into the fabric without first rinsing out the decades of dust. I started with mostly brown and navy and one bright blue strand. Color shifted to some lighter browns and then the bright blue became a blue green and I added a burgundy purple color. This will be interesting to use as warp since the colors shift so much from the start of the chenille to the end. Looking forward to seeing the transition from this step to the next.

Finished cutting the first set of strips. Hope to warp for the second set of chenille this weekend sometime.

Warp for the next batch of chenille has been tied onto the loom F2B and is ready for winding.
I wound my warp 4 threads at a time for quickness since the reed is sleyed with 4 threads in the dents (and then a big empty space). So I suspect there will be some twisting as I wind on and that will take a while. Maybe tomorrow. Glad to be moving on this project again.

Finished weaving second set of strips on New Year’s Eve. Washed on New Year’s Day but then remembered that these old coned yarns have a petroleum smell and need to be washed in hot water and lots of soap. So washed them again yesterday and now waiting for it to dry to cut. Accidentally started cutting and then remembered I needed to wash first so there is one strip partially cut.

Finished cutting the chenille, part 2. I now have enough to make two rugs. Need to decide if I’ll keep the blue in one rug and the red/purple in the other or if I’ll alternate. Probably I’ll keep them separate.
