Notes

Another Rikke hat with the remaining purple Shetland. I decided to do some intermittent slip stitches just for a little more interesting knitting. This is about the fourth or fifth straight stockinette or garter stitch item I have made lately.

I knew from weighing the remaining yarn that I had about the same yardage as for the first purple hat, so I would be a bit short of what is required for Rikke. When I started to get worried about running out, I started the decreases early (about 7 in from start, rather than 9). I also decided to decrease every round for a few rounds, then work one even, then decrease every round for a few, then work even. This makes the crown relatively flat and the stripes make a pretty design! At 8 stitches left I pulled the yarn through the stitches. I had about 8 inches of yarn left. Yeah!!! Mark this yarn “All Used Up!”

I washed aggressively so that there will be some fulling. I want the stitches to meld a little and not be so knobby as garter stitch seems to be when first knit. I also like a slight halo and fulling will do that with some fibers.
