I used knitted cast-on.
I chose to do the smaller of the two options
Truest color in the bottom pictures.

Wonderfully written pattern. Charted and written instructions, very clear and easy to read. Repeats were small and easily remembered while watching light tv (not for good movies)

I’ve gone from row 1 to repeating the open twist rib in two hours!
