There are sooooooo many Star Wars charts and sooooooo many hat patterns, but none were quite what I wanted. Was inspired by the movies … and some of the patterns listed … but designed my own charts so cannot give JUST ONE of these patterns any more credit than ANY OTHER.
R2D2 from the original Star Wars movies, seriously, how many ways can you create that little guy within a series of squares? (See:http://www.tabberone.com/Trademarks/CopyrightLaw/Patterns.shtml ) for copyright law legal discussion on patterns.)
Because I fully respect how Ravelry credits and protects pattern designers, to be fair, I searched Ravelry patterns for “Star Wars” and have listed all of the knitted Star Wars patterns I found in that search - see My Ravelry Star Wars Pattern Search - as having been “incorporated” in my pattern.
Then I searched Google for images of “Star Wars Knitting Patterns” and got these results - Google Star Wars Knitting Pattern Image search results - and guess what, turns out, some of these link to charts on Ravelry, yet others are from other websites. Again, how many times can you make R2D2, or a Storm Trooper, with little squares and have them not look quite similar?
What can I say? I have done my wholehearted best to recognize anyone who has a Star Wars pattern here, my homework done, but none of those patterns were EXACTLY what I wanted … so I made my own charts and designed my own hat pattern.
Again, how many ways can you make R2D2 out of little squares? My goal is to NOT offend anyone … so I give credit to ALL the patterns that I found in my simple searches within Ravelry and Google for “star wars” patterns, charts and images …
That said, this is not my favorite hat, but the Son wanted a Star Wars hat … so this is his … he will love it … May make the same hat, only with a Storm Trooper, maybe other Star Wars stuff on them too. Who knows … I’m usually an over achiever in things like this … so we’ll see how many Star Wars hats he ends up in his fleet of hats. May the force be with him …
Yarn amounts given are only approximate … as all were leftovers in my yarn cabinet … and I did not weigh them as I created the first hat. Sorry.
This is how I did it:
CO 112 with long tail cast on, set up and worked Latvian Brain, knit a round of MC, then created a chart for “May the Force be With You” for those 112 stitches and worked that with MC and CC2. Worked one row of K MC, decreasing 2, then two rows alternating with MC and CC1, CC1 and MC. Knit one more row of MC. Worked my R2D2 chart over 110 stitches with MC, CC3, CC4 and CC5. Knit one more row MC, decreasing 2 stitches, Repeated the alternating two rows of MC and CC1, CC1 and MC. Then worked MC until hat measured 7” from CO edge, then worked crown decreases as follows with MC: K2tog, K4 around, K 3 rows; K2tog, K3 around, K 2 rows; K2tog, K 1 around, K 1 row; K2tog around, K1 row; K2tog … until 9 sts remain; then broke MC, pulled end through remaining stitches, wove in ends, gave hat a good soak, blocked over favorite hat blocking pot, let dry … and wrapped up in a gift bag to put under the tree …
I’m glad to share any of the charts I created for FREE. Feel free to contact me if you would like a copy of them. I suppose if you feel I have infringed in some way on the copyright of one of your Star Wars designs or charts, you will contact me too … perhaps I missed yours in my searches … if that the case, please believe that such an omission has been completely inadvertent rather than deliberate and I am sorry. I can certainly add your pattern or chart to my list of others patterns that have in some way influenced my design.
Sincere effort has been made to NOT duplicate anyone else’s charts … but I wanted a hat perfect for the Son … and seriously, how many ways can you draw out R2D2 with little squares and not have it look quite a bit like someone else’s R2D2?
