I found the yarn before I decided on a pattern. Long story short: My mom taught me how to knit when I was young (9-ish) but back then I didn’t have the patience for it. I enjoyed it for a few rows at a time, but there was NO WAY I was going to finish a project.
Fast forward…I taught myself to crochet several years ago (2003 or so?) and finally decided to re-learn how to knit. I blame Jezzie. XD I went to the local Michael’s, picked up a “I Taught Myself How To Knit” kit (same way I started with crochet) and a skein of yarn. I chose the yarn for the color and softness, not because I had anything in mind that I wanted to do with it.
I don’t want to call it a boucle, but I guess it is. It’s irregular, but not really slubby in my opinion. Anyway, it probably wasn’t the best yarn to learn on because it’s not smooth so it’s a little more difficult to handle when you’re not used to it, but it makes me happy.
This was the first time I have ever done cables, and once I got the hang of them they were pretty easy. Mom used to make these beautiful cabled afghans, so it’s nice to learn some new techniques.
I’m probably going to be adding a faux fur-like trim to the edges, and perhaps along the sides. It probably won’t need it, but again, the color combination makes me happy. I love pink and dark brown.
Nov 5, 2011 - Added a picture. It’s 2/3 done. Included the Bernat Boa yarn in the pic that I’m considering using as a trim. Nothing too fancy, just a simple edging. The colors in the pic look pretty true on my monitor. Very happy with how this is turning out. I could have it done in 2-4 days.
Nov 7, 2011 - FINISHED! I had to frog the trim about a million times until I got it the way I liked it, but when it finally came together I was really happy with the way it turned out. It might be too much texture for some people, but I love it. And since I’m the one who will be wearing it, that’s what matters, right?!
