Nov 16, 2011 - Just started these! Pretty excited to try doing socks. I think they’ll look pretty in this yarn…assuming I do them right!
Nov 19, 2011 - Turned the heel for the first sock last night. The lace pattern came out nicely! I think I might have messed up on the heel a little bit, but we shall see. Doing the gusset set up rows now. For being “Copper Colors,” this yarn has been more reds and pinks and browns than oranges. This is okay to me because I still like the colors. I would use the yarn again. I’m worried that I might need to get another skein of yarn. We’ll see.
Nov 21, 2011 - Working on the foot for the first sock now. It’s looking like I’ll need a little more than 1 skein per sock. Of course, I only bought two skeins total. I have 3-4 more pattern repeats left to do before I start decreasing for the toe. The heel did turn out a little big (I have small feet) and I really needed 29 rows instead of the 33 it called for. But very pleased with my first sock! I’ll get a picture when I finish this one.
Nov 28, 2011 - I FINISHED A SOCK! I was gone for the Thanksgiving holiday (from the 22nd to yesterday) and didn’t want to risk losing my DPNs on the plane (I brought my aqua sweater instead) so I had a lot of time off and the idea of finishing this sock nagged at me. But I finally got to sit down and finish the sock. It was turning out a little long, and I was getting close to running out of yarn, so I fudged the toe a bit. The plus side is that it fits. It feels a little strange (the heel is a bit big and the toe is odd since I fudged it) but it’s my first sock completed! I’m sitting here wearing the one sock and am happy that it’s nice and cozy! I’m pretty excited to start working on the second sock too, and relieved that I won’t have to buy another skein of yarn. I’ll try to get a pic tomorrow if the weather is nice enough to get some good light to show off the pattern.
Dec. 10, 2011 - Both socks are now done! Things I’ve learned:
~I knitted the second sock a bit on the loose side, I barely had enough yarn to finish it.
~I like the color and variegation of the yarn itself, but not so sure I like “mismatched” socks. I think that for the most part I’m going to stick with solid colors to show off the knitting work.
~Grafting the toe was easier this time around, but I might have done it backward. Oh well! It’s finished!
~The pattern is pretty, but I probably should have done this in a solid or more-solid color to show off the pattern, and should have made the Small size. I have small feet. (Between size 6-7, depending on the make of the shoe.)
~I will NOT stay up late to knit! Sleepiness made me pull out a few rows. “Just one more round” would take more time than it should have because I’d have to re-do the round.
But overall I’m pleased with my first pair of socks! It’s a pretty pattern, and I love being able to look at them and know I made them!
