Sept 5, 2013 - Bought this yarn during a business trip after wandering the aisles of a yarn store with GlitterGlamGirl for a LONG time, looking for the perfect souvenir yarn. I just have a hard time buying yarn without having a project in mind for it. So when I saw this yarn, I KNEW it was for me (anyone sensing a color theme here?) and I KNEW it had to be a clapotis.
I started my clapotis on Sunday in a fit of rage after giving up on working on my Blizzcon costume for the night. I needed something relaxing.
So far, so good. I’m using the marker-free version of the clapotis pattern with knitting/purling through the back loop before and after the stitch that will be dropped. I’m planning to do the same width as the pattern, but from the research I’ve done, I’ll do 2 less repeats of the middle section to be sure I have enough yarn.
As of last night I’m done with 5 of 6 1/2 repeats in section 2.
January 17, 2014 - “Two fewer repeats in the middle section” I said. HA! HAHAHA!
I guess people were holding their yarn doubled, but I wanted a lighter scarf/shawl and didn’t want the colors to be muddled.
Right now I’m on the 11th repeat in the middle section, AND I AM STILL ON MY FIRST SKEIN OF YARN. I can probably get 12 of 13 done with this skein.
So yeah. Anyway. It’s about a yard long, unblocked at this point. You can see it in the picture draped over my puggle, Zoe. I’m almost “done” with the middle section, as far as the pattern is concerned, and I’m just going to use all my yarn to make sure it goes around my neck doubled, as in the pictures of the original. Which means I’ll probably have like 24 repeats in the middle section.
However, I’m okay with this.
Just keep knitting, just keep knitting….
Monday, March 17, 2014 - FINISHED!
Okay, this thing is HUGE but I was determined to use up all of my yarn…or at least as much as possible.
In total I had 25 repeats in the middle. The first skein of yarn got me through just a few stitches under 12.5 repeats. However, the second skein of yarn began pooling (probably from switching to different size 6 needles plus pulling from the outside of the balled skein rather than the inside like I did the first one) so I “fixed” it by tightening my gauge for a bit. So I had some yarn left over, but definitely not enough for another repeat. The pooled section makes me a little sad, but at the same time it just makes it unique.
I have a TON of stitches to drop, and I’m debating how much I’m going to block it.
But I love this yarn and the colorway and the pattern. It should be light enough to use as a summer shawl, and yet worn a different way it should be a nice snuggly scarf. And it’s LOOOOOOONG! We got a random hit of winter weather so I can’t wait to wear it tomorrow!
