Started this last January after I finished my last project, but haven’t done much knitting this year. I had 3 skeins of yarn, and this seemed like a good project to show off the colors while still having some interest in the design.
The only downside is this yarn doesn’t do dye lots, so no two skeins are alike. They’re close, but they’re off just enough that I was worried about how it would turn out if I just used one skein at a time. So for the body of the shawl, I used two skeins that were the closest in color, and alternated every other row. The body right now is the minimum length with 200 stitches on my needles. However, I’m on vacation without a digital scale to weigh my yarn, so I don’t know how much I have left to know if I can continue with the body or if I should start on the border. (I also don’t have a cable needle with me, so I won’t be starting on the border right now anyway.)
When I get home and get a chance to weigh my yarn (I wish I’d bought the 4th skein I saw so I could have just used 2 for the body and 2 for the border!) I’ll get back to it and see if I can make it a little longer. I like bigger shawls. They’re great on planes. Then I’ll probably do the border by alternating skein 1 with skein 3 (a full skein) until 1 is gone, then switch to skein 2 with skein 3…thereby eliminating any color blocking that could happen if I just finish off my skeins.
Anyway, just realized I hadn’t added this to my projects yet even though I’m now possibly halfway done. Pics later!
