February 11, 2012 - Started this late last night as a quickie project. I’m finding that the “quickieness” of the project will be slowed by the beading, but that’s okay.
The beads are pretty. I went with some aurora borealis/rainbow-hued finished light-blue glass beads rather than the foil-lined ones. So far I think 1/3 of them don’t really fit on my crochet hook (so close!) but I JUST found my crochet hook set that had been missing for a while, so maybe there’s another that will work better. (Apparently I’m missing a hook somewhere…I hope it’s not the one that would be the PERFECT size!)
This is my first time working with lace-weight yarn, and the fact that it’s mohair is making it a little more complicated. It’s pretty and wonderful to work with, but I’m regretting not having sharper needles at the moment. I’m getting along with what I have but can see where sharper points would make it so much easier.
I hope to get this done before it warms up too much. We’ve barely had a winter this year, and I feel spring is around the corner.
March 1, 2012 - This “quickie” project hasn’t been going as quickly as I would have liked, but I’ve been in the process of moving in February which has slowed me down. But I’m almost done! I’m working on doing the beaded picot bind-off at the bottom, and then I just need to block it! I may be able to finish that up tomorrow while I’m finishing cleaning up before Jezi arrives to move in with me.
My only lament is that I wish the needles I am using were a little sharper. It kind of makes working on the yarn a pain, especially in the bind-off process.
But the cowl itself is so pretty and smooshy and soft. I’m in love with it! I just hope we have one more day of cold weather so I can get at least one wear out of it!
