Jan. 22, 2012 - I started and re-started this shrug several times. After seeing Sabine I changed my mind a bit on the lace. So I’m using the ribbed knit design on the sleeve cuffs, added a thumb hole, and am just knitting the rest of the shrug. No lace this time. It’s not that I couldn’t do it, but I figured my reason for wanting a shrug in the first place (warmth while sitting next to this single-pane window) didn’t quite jive with “lacy holey sleeves.”
I’m knitting the sleeves in the round. I started on DPNs, but since I got a new set of interchangeable circulars (and didn’t have size 7 DPNs), I figured this was a good enough time to learn how to do the Magic Loop method!
The yarn was from The Guy’s mother’s stash. It’s not the best, and I see in the yarn comments that a lot of people hate it, but my thought was this: FREE YARN. I really only plan to wear this around the house, anyway, and was the only stuff I had on hand to make a decent little shrug to wear while I’m at the computer.
So yeah, kind of hard to say this is from the same pattern, but I really liked the ribbed edge. At this point I have 1 sleeve and about 1/3 of the back completed.
February 10, 2012 - I finished this 2 days ago and finally got pictures.
The sleeves are a little long, even with the thumbholes, but they’re comfy enough. I haven’t blocked it at all. The ribbing around the neck/body opening does a pretty good job of keeping it from rolling. The yarn is a bit sheddy, but I expected that much. It knit up surprisingly stiffer than I expected (well, before I read the comments on the yarn that it’s pretty stiff) but it’s still soft and fuzzy and I like petting it.
Overall I’m pleased. Not sure I’d wear it out, but that’s more from the color actually not being so great on me than I thought it would be. I’ll gladly wear this around the house. In fact I am wearing it right now!
Also, I’m calling this my pink “Meh” based on this conversation on Twitter:
Pliers1: @Ailinea @hestiahdruid I like shrugs. I like the idea of having clothing that matches my body language.
Me: @pliers1 HAHAHA! Well, I don’t own one yet…maybe it’s because they’ve never made an article of clothing called a “Meh”?
Pliers1: @hestiahdruid @Ailinea You could make it out of sarcashmere.
