Notes

Good pattern instructions except for short rows (see January entry). Used 3mm needles to get gauge with this cotton yarn. Underarms were a bit tight which I found out after separating from yoke, so had to pick up a few stitches afterwards which caused puckering under sleeve. Should have checked dimensions on schematic provided, or maybe I like looser fit for under arms? Sleeves knit in the round on 3.5mm needles as I tend to be a tighter knitter. Used a stretchy lace bind off (purl two together then return to left needle) after garter rows which finished the edges beautifully. This project took forever but I was determined to make sure it didn’t become an ‘unfinished project’ to tackle in the future. Besides, I have too much wool in my stash and want to start a new project without guilt! The yarn has pilled quite markedly with just a few wearings. Added a few stitches at front to improve drape, otherwise it tended to curl inwards.

July 2013
Worn a couple a couple of times, but one sleeve longer than the other despite me counting rows, so haven’t been wearing it much! Finally unravelled and knitted to correct length, wove in ends. Next time I will knit two sleeves at the same time on my circular needles.

March 2013
Started on sleeves, which seemed to take forever - like knitting socks, of which I am not a fan.

End Feb 2013
Finished the short rows and the stitch count was correct again! Amazing. Now half way through the second set of radial increases - or holes as my husband says, which he says I’m good at making! On the home run to waistline. Oops, but forgot I have to also do the sleeves. Rats. Suppose I could pretend they were cap sleeves and hide the cables until I was ready to knit the sleeves longer. Surely nobody would notice!

Did stuff up short rows and had to frog back to last radial increases. Fortunately found the forum* for this designer’s pattern with lifesaver Ravelry user dickerdoodle’s computations for first and second set of short rows for size M1:

Dying for a cup of tea and my dinner!

Am at the short rows/wrap and turn stage, so reading lots of ref books/watching videos to learn technique. Probably stalling a bit before embarking on this in case I stuff it up! So far stitch counts are as they should be - unusual for me. Wondering also whether to increase under arm.
Also used my new iPad to take and then upload photo using Ravelry’s launch uploader app link (Quickpic) all in one click! Great feature, Ravelry programmers. (Beats having to find my Canon camera, transfer photos to my laptop, then upload to Ravelry!)
