Using leftover yarn. Cast on 60 provisional cast on.
Place markers every 10 stitches.
R1: s1 kwyb, k to last 3 stitches, k2 tog, k1
R2: s1 wyb,, p to end of row
Do 16 rows on first color, but in following sections do 20 rows.
Continue R1 and R 2 10x(20 rows). 20 stitches are now before the first marker, 0 stitches after last marker.

Change to contrast color yarn. I used a much thinner fingering yarn in charcoal. Knit R1 as above. On wrong side knit Star stitch: s1pwyb, p1, (p3tog leave on needle,yo,p3tog, drop off needle,) repeat across, purl last stitches.
Switch to color 2, repeat as above R1 and 2. After 20 rows do star stitch repeat in thin yarn.
Continue for about 45 inches. End with star stitch and 4 more rows of original color #1.
Now block the scarf. Undo the provisional cast cast on, put wrong sides together without twisting scarf and kitchener stitch together. Voila!
