The inspiration was Spacecurry’s blanket (Garter Squish by Steven West) but then as a cardigan! I’ve chosen the pattern Alska as it resembles my vision (see sketch) but I followed the waist decrease/increase from Paper Dolls by Kate Davies, for a lovely waisted body.
When buying yarn online the colour choice is agonizingly difficult as every photo/screen render the hues differently.
I’m adding a photo of my yarns in both daylight and artificial light.
My intent was garter stitch, at least in part, but it looked really messy and bulky, so it’s stocking stitch all over now.
I had planned to use two strands of Alpaca as in the pattern (and bought yarn accordingly) but when test knitting it turned out super thin, regardless of size needles. Since I wanted a thick cardigan, and rather soon, I opted for 3 strands instead, I’ve had to re-arrange my colours and order some more yarn though.
I decided to knit in the round, why purl when I can knit :)
Following the pattern I find that the neckline is way lower/larger than on their photo, see ‘grey’ photos. I’ve now knitted the collar differently. I am still planning to add a zipper, but maybe blue…
All in all happy with the Alska pattern, only the collar area was not fitting, and generally the shape is different, it should have been a long slim sweater, it turned out a bit short and wide, despite the waist I added.
Changes to pattern:
- 3 strands i.s.o 2
- added a waist
- changed the collar
- knitted in the round (body part)
- zipper to come
