The last time I knit this hat, our oldest grandson was brand new. Now our middle grandboy is turning 6 and deep into Pokémon. He put it on askew because he was so excited!

Using worsted weight yarn, I cast on 80 on US 6’s. Switched to US 8’s for the stockinette. I began decreasing at 5 3/4”. I started with sections of 10, knitting the last 2 together (stitches 9 and 10), then k a round, knit last 2 together (stitches 8 and 9), knit a round, etc. After knitting stitches 4 and 5 together, I didn’t do the knit round in between. With 8 stitches left, I used a needle through the stitches to finish.

Knit the horns flat: 14 cast on, 12 rows then black first and last 2 stiches (1 ladderback in the middle), added 1 each side each knit round. When I had a full row of blacks, I k2tog on each side (p2tog on purl side) until I had 1 stitch left. I let the shape roll to create bulk and used long end yarn to stitch up the middle. I embroidered the face on using scrap yarn.
