OVERVIEW
I test knit this project for Kristen Zimel (Snitches Get Purled) and had a blast. This zip up pullover is so soft and squishy, and it knit up incredibly fast! Kristen was a wonderful resource throughout the test knit and clearly had put so much work into this pattern even before the test knit started. I highly recommend test knitting for her in the future!
The pattern was easy to read and follow and has a lot of support notes included. While the pattern is graded for beginners, I would not recommend this as a first wearable pattern for a true beginner as there are several techniques that may be challenging. That said, an adventurous beginner/one who has already made a couple wearable patterns will probably be able to work their way through this pattern fairly easily!
YARN
I used Drops Alpaca Bouclé and Lima, and they grew a lot in width when blocked, but not as much in length. If using these yarns, consider sizing down if you want something less fitted.
SIZING
I am 5’5”, with a short waist and measurements 45” - 35” - 42”. I made this pattern in a size XL, though I would also have been comfortable in a size L. Below I have included the variation from the pattern measurements in inches in pre-block/post-block format:
- Bust: -8.5/-2.5
- Hip: -2/+2
- Length: -2.25/-.75
- Wrist Rib: -1.5/-1.25
- Hem Rib: -/-
- Wrist Circumference: -.75/-.75
- Arm: -/+1
MODIFICATIONS
I made a handful of small modifications for my comfort/preferences with Kristen’s approval.
First, I used a 10” zipper, and a 11.5” zipper facing. I did this because the recommended zipper length wasn’t flattering on my frame. Since my neck is also a little shorter, the collar came up to my chin and I wanted a little space between the zipper top and my chin.
Second, because I used a shorter zipper, I also joined in the round earlier, 8 rows earlier than the pattern instructed.
Finally, I prefer a little less ribbing on the wrists, so I shortened the ribbing by 1.5”, but kept the arm length the same overall.
