Alternate cable cast on on 2mm, lace pattern on 2.5mm. I don’t have the specified 2.25mm needles so am knitting the 60 stitch pattern which, according to the pattern, would be a bit too small for me on 2.25s. Hopefully it’ll fit on 2.5s.
I didn’t realize how strong the striping in this blue yarn was until I knitted it up. Decided it doesn’t complement the lace stitch pattern so frogging the sock to reknit with a solid green.
Also, since this is part of my personal master class goal (i.e. to learn lots about sock knitting and master it) and I’ve knitted a few toes and heels like those in this sock pattern, I am now going to switch it around a bit, knit it toe up with a rounded toe and the FLK heel. I’ll simply knit the lace as written since the chart direction is not important. So really only the lace design is from this sock pattern. And a very nice lace design it is too.
Second version started July 18: TR CO 28 sts (14 each needle), followed by rounded toe with increases up to 60. Total rounds for toe (including CO), 21.
I absolutely love the FLK heel. It’s so perfect, good-looking and hole-free, plus the process of knitting it is so stress-free and enjoyable. It is ever so slightly tight over my instep: next time I knit it I think I will do a tiny gusset increase on the sole stitches (2-4 sts) and then decrease them away immediately in the band above the heel. But it is a super heel.
I also love the rounded toe. It fits my rather rounded foot very well!
This is the first time I have used this yarn and I love it.
After 4 repeats on the leg, I switched to 2.75mm needles and did 1.5 more repeats, finishing on row 8, before starting 20 rows 2/2 ribbing on 2.5mm. EZ sewn cast-off.
07.03.2016 After wearing these a few times, I have to say that I regret the FLK heel. The lace looks terrific on, but they are a little tight over the instep.
