Notes

It’s important to note that the severe texturing of this stitch pattern -even though it creates a heavy, warm, and highly insulating fabric - renders the lush softness of the $8/skein yarn inconsequential, as the stitch pattern produces firm ridges with tight twists along the entire length of every row of SCtog pairs. When I make this pattern again, I’ll buy the cheapest yarn possible, instead of paying more for an “ultra-soft” yarn.

No Weaving Ends Method for color changes:
.. Black to Purple, carry Black up the side
.. each Purple row pair, leave a pair of 8” long hanging tails
.. AND, use an Invisible Knot/Flawless Join when adding a new Black skein (actually invisible, never comes loose, no ends to pop out)

The tight twisting of the SCtog pairs means that no matter how carefully you might normally weave-in ends when changing colors, the fuzzy little snipped-tips will pop right back out.

This method makes it so that there is only a single (black) end to weave-in, and that’s at the final corner of the blanket. The long purple tails get worked into the tassels.

It is absolutely critical to remember the final SC at the end of every single row. If this final stitch is not made, the work will begin to triangle progressively inward - which works for a shawl, but not a blanket.

To accomplish this, I counted stitches each time I came to the first purple row. If I had somehow dropped a stitch since the last count, I made increases just before the end of the row, thus keeping the stitch count per row at ‘150’ while minimizing the noticeability of the fix.

To maintain this stitch count, I placed stitch markers along the first row (see below) and moved them up as I went. From Row.2 onward, the marker clips will fall on the last stitch of each section count when working across each row.

MARKER PLACEMENT:
r.1.s0 - orange clip
r1.s25 - blue clip (25)
r1.s45 - orange clip (20)
r1.s65 - blue clip (20)
r1.s85 - orange clip (20)
r1.s105 - blue clip (20)
r1.s125 - orange clip (20)
r1.s150 - blue clip (25)

Tassel Strands
The pattern says to cut 16 strands for each tassel, but, as you have to pull them through doubled-over, I could get no more than 10 strands to pull through the small holes at the end of the accent color rows.

Also, if you cut the strands when you measure them, it becomes difficult to keep them all even when pulling them through the row ends, so I left each set of tassels looped, which made it much easier to cut them evenly and to the exact same length as the final step.

Row & Stitch Counts
4 rows of Black
+ 25 sets of ‘2 rows of Purple plus 4 rows of Black’
is 154 rows total
x 150 stitches per row
is 23,100 stitches total

Tassel Strand Counts
10 strands (9”) = 7.5 yards
x 2 tassels per accent row
is 20 strands = 15 yards total per accent row
x 25 accent rows
is 500 strands = 375 yards total for the blanket tassels
