Notes

I worked the cables in handspun over cascade sport while I’m knitting the body in silky wool. Have I mentioned that I’m really bad at following patterns as written?

Modification notes:
The mods needed to work this yoke in two colors are tricky - although they’re easier to do than to write out. Here are my tips:
-Work one row in MC, then the next row in CC. To maintain the garter stitch background this will mean working a RS row with the MC, then another RS row with the CC (just purled, instead of knit) THEN work two WS rows to get both strands of yarn back to the other edge. Yes. This means you’ve got to work cables from the WS every 4th row. It’s easier done than explained.

-Work the cables in your MC, on CC rows just slip the cabled stitches. This means the stitches which are meant to be slipped in the chart should actually be knit.

-After you get used to all that for the first half, you’ll discover you need to work a WS row in MC for your first row of the second half, and that means you’ll be purling in MC on your cabling rows and knitting in the CC on your slipped stitch rows.

Clear as mud? Now you see why I didn’t write the original design this way. Pretty. But hard to explain.

8/3: I am getting SPOT ON gauge using the cascade sport and handspun in garter stitch on US4’s. I love it when things work the way I expect them to.

7/31: Both the cascade and the silky wool are sport weight yarns, while the handspun varies from sport to almost worsted in size (that’s just the nature of my handspun)
I’ve cast on for the back rectangle using 33 sts (the 40” size) but I’m going to work the shoulders just to the width for the 37” size. The back rectangle will serve as my gauge swatch to decide what mods I need to make to the front cable panel.

7/30: I’m a little worried about having enough yardage - “luckily” the one I’m likely to run out of is the silky-wool. I should be able to buy more if needed. I’m also considering working the garter hems in the same colors as the garter yoke.

11/22: finally seamed the shoulders. I finished the knitting in September? maybe? No idea why the finishing too so long. I ended up blocking this long and narrow which makes it fit a little better around the bust (it was gonna have TOO MUCH positive ease) and also make the vest solidly tunic length. Perfect with leggings!
