Notes

This dress is cozy, warm, and gorgeous. I love it because it’s so simple to feel dressed up. I picked up the cranberry red leggings just to go with this dress and now I think I need a white long sleeve shirt to wear under it. DH says it’s a “christmasy” outfit but I’m ok with that.

1/24: Finished the hem with half a skein to spare! It’s a good length too. Wove in ends. Now it needs a really serious blocking. This yarn was old and dirty when I started using it in 2012…

1/16: Picked up stitches around the bottom where I removed the ribbing and now I’m re-kntting it longer and stretchier to make this back into a dress. I’m working garter ribbing but I’m carrying the three strand cables down into the hem. Working the center cable in reverse was just too much brain-power the night I started the hem.

1/14: slow and steady progress, I finished the cap sleeves after having to rip and re-knit the first one TWICE. Probably a gauge-related issue but I was getting too much flare out at the edge (see photo) so I needed to add decreases to the short row shaping.

1/5/16: Finished the front with only a small snafu where I started the armholes too soon and had to frog back.
I took the ribbing off the bottom and put the stitches on holders. Then seamed the front and back. I’m going to work the collar and cap sleeves first, then I’ll add ribbing to the bottom to make it sweater dress length.
I think I’m going to work a combination of 2x2 rib and 2x2 garter rib using the regular rib where I want structure and the softer garter rib at the hems.

12/30/15: Reviving this one from deep hibernation because I really want more sweater dresses! An in-depth review shows that I’ve finished the back and I’m up to the waist on the front (sans pocket, which still seems like a good choice).

The garment is coming in around 3.8 sts/in which is a bit more dense than my notes below. That’ll give a sweater with about a 34-35” bust, or 2” of negative ease. That’s not too bad, but I will add a two extra bust increases rows to the front. That should give a 35-36” bust measurement with an added inch in the front where it’s needed most anyway.

10/25/12: Worked regularly during august to october, now into hibernation for a while…

8/5/12: I love everything about this! Of course I’m making changes still…

Cast on fewer stitches because I only went down one needle size for the ribbing (couldn’t bring myself to work aran bartlett on size 6’s! ouch!) increased in last WS ribbed row to be at the right stitch count for the body.

Working a slightly shorter body, placing the decreases differently, not working a pocket. Oh, I might add long sleeves too…

Working on US’s for a gauge of 3.5sts/in instead of the called for 3.25sts/in. Working the directions for the size 40.5 should give a bust size of 37ish.
