I used the Lazy Daze E-Z hat pattern to make it just a little bit taller than a regular beanie, then just added earflaps and a pom to the top. Turned out really well and the friend I made it for, who is a huge Firefly fan, absolutely loved it. Plus, using this pattern, the hat works up really fast.
