Notes

Another brilliant collection of knits from Veera and Joji! Just when you think this ‘power knitting couple’ couldn’t actually improve upon the last collection, they do - with added sprinkles and a big, fat cherry on top cherries cake

Interpretations 5 may actually be my fave to date. Though, I’m certain I’ll be saying the same when Collection 6 arrives!

Okay, so this squishy, garter-collar-goodness of a cardigan (with perfectly placed pockets) had to be my first knit from the collection. And, I had enough Drops Puna in stash to cast on almost immediately. I would have made tremendous progress, If it hadn’t been for a severe bout of flu - Interrupting proceedings for an entire three weeks! Anyhow, I’ve managed to finish this cardigan just in time for Easter hatching_chick We’re heading to the Yorkshire Coast in a few days and this cardigan, alongside many knitted garments, will be necessary. That sea-breeze is always bracing.

Design: Okay, a slight panic when knitting the yoke as the front sections/armpit depths, didn’t appear deep enough. Though, having inspected the images, the addition of the collar and front bands (later) does compensate. The front bands are largely positioned on ‘the shoulders’ and hang down to provide adequate front bands.

As with all Veera designs, the design itself appears quite simple but there are plenty of design details to add interest and add that ‘polished finish’. I particularly love how the stitches are picked up along the yoke edges to create the ‘fronts’ of the garments at sleeve separation point. And, the increases along the body only to create a ‘flared’ appearance to the cardigan - it drapes beautifully. Also, the addition of the deep garter hem and collar/fronts - is just lovely. It really makes for a cosy cardigan you can envisage wrapping yourself up in.

Mods:

1) I’ve added a few extra inches to the body, before separating for pockets and adding the garter hem.

2) I’ve knitted my pocket linings in a different colour (leftover taupe from this Joji shawl)

3) As always, I’ve had to amend the recommended needle size to attain gauge.

4) Picked up slightly more stitches than suggested for the front bands - I don’t think this is an issue, as long as you have the same amount of stitches per band and have you central marker positioned correctly, for collar increases.

No other mods - as always, pattern beautifully presented and perfectly written/explained.

Yarn: Drops Puna. Im completely OBSESSED with alpaca at the moment and the Drops puna is beautifully soft and hazy. It creates the perfect fabric for such a cardigan. Light and airy but really quite robust and significantly warming - it’s just perfect. It works especially well in both stockinette and garter fabrics - with the right amount of squish for both. And, perfectly priced too!

Photos: a very blustery day along Mappleton Beach, East Yorkshire Coast. The sea was magnificent and its ferocity not fully captured in these pics. Reminded me very much of a location one would expect to see in a Scandi drama - anticipated bumping into Wallander or even better, Sarah Lund?!
