Garter stitch, cables and reverse stockinette, all pulled together to create a neat, little beanie. It’s perfect
️
The depth of this hat is very much of beanie proportions. I’ve repeated the charted rows 1-16 THREE times in total providing minimal slouch - and is thus a lovely addition to my slouch heavy hat haul. Because of its depth, I didn’t want it super snug around my head. I imagined a cool spring day and requiring a light woollen hat that doesn’t make my head sweaty and my hair frizz
. I’ve thus, opted to knit a slightly larger circumference than I’d usually opt for (when knitting slouchy hats). That extra inch or so, to the circumference provides a looser fit works well with the airy, light fabric.
The fabric is light and airy and so this really is a hat to be worn around Spring and on the odd cool summer day when the wind has picked up and you need a little head protection. It was perfect for our little 6 mile jaunt, starting along the River and slowly ascending to higher ground - the wind did pick up and a little hat was needed.
Mods: I’ve knitted exactly as instructed but only completed THREE repeats of the cable design (instead of four). I have also gone up a needle size to attain gauge - though I think I’m still a little over i.e. hat circumference slightly smaller than large specifications.
Wool: I fell in love with Dusty Dimples at Nottingham Yarn Expo. Her colourways are playful and very feminine and masterfully done. This particular colourway, ‘ripple’, to me, is a rainbow that has been spun in a candy floss machine
- it’s super fun and very pretty and showcased perfectly in reverse stockinette fabric. I love it.

Pompom: is on the large size!
I’m minded to change it for a smaller version…but then that would be admitting defeat. I feel I must embrace this furry-goodness in all its bountiful glory! Especially as the husband continues to remark on my head to Pompom ratio (in favour of the Pompom). I’ve a smaller version on standby in case I change my mind.
Overall: great little pattern and a lovely design. Especially good if you’ve some half used fingering skeins that you want to use! I’ve at least half a skein leftover from this knit.
