Notes

MODIFICATION: instead of doing 2-inch ribbed hem, did rolled hem to match neckline immediately after finishing lace repeats. My finished sweater is about 2” shorter than pattern schematic for size large and used about 15g/55 yards less yarn than it would have with ribbed hem. If I did the ribbed hem, I would have needed part of a 5th skein of Mojave.

I made this modification because I am 5’ 2”, and without the ribbing, the sweater hits at my high hip, which is a good length for me. Perhaps other shorter people will also want to make this mod! I also just loved the look of the rolled edging.

Size Large (42” finished bust) shown modeled on a 38” bust with 4 inches of positive ease (ease recommended in pattern is 2-3 inches positive ease).

KNITTING NOTES
*******************

There isn’t a pattern size with a bust measurement that has the recommended amount of 2 - 3” positive ease for me (medium = 1.25” positive ease; large = 4.25” positive ease). I am going with the larger size.

First swatch (5/10/23) on US 5 needles, blocked:
20.5 sts x 39.5 rows (!!!) =4”

Second swatch (5/11/23) on US 4 needles, blocked:
23 sts x 37 rows = 4”

It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to match pattern gauge. I chose to go with US 5 needles for a couple of reasons. First, I cast on the number of stitches for my swatches that should get me a 6” square with pattern gauge (in this case, 33 sts). The US 5 swatch is close to 6”. Second, I prefer drapey-er fabric for my sweaters, and the “scrunch test” shows that the US 5 fabric has a lot more drape.

Final gauge in finished, blocked sweater was 22 sts x 32 rows = 4”, so the US 5 ended up working! I always get dense row gauge, but I was able to block this piece aggressively to pattern schematics.

DAY 1
Cast on and beginning of raglan increases.
Approximate knitting time: 7.5 hours.

DAY 2
Completed raglan increases and wet-blocked yoke to pattern measurements. The length of my yoke was about 8” before blocking, but I was able to transfer my stitches to a Barber Cord and aggressively block and pin it to the 10.5” length and 21” width of the schematic. If I hadn’t been able to do this, I would have added length before separating for sleeves.

Approximate knitting time to use up one hank of Mojave: 11 hours.
Approximate total knitting time for Day 2: 7.75 hours.

DAY 3
Separated for sleeves. Began lace chart. When I came to the end of ball 2, finished sleeves (except for ties) and picked up for neckline. Transferred to Barber Cords and tried on for fit. Wove in ends.
Approximate knitting time to use up two hanks of Mojave: 20.5 hours.
Approximate total knitting time for Day 3: 8 hours 15 minutes.

DAY 4
Finished second repeat of lace chart. Each repeat of lace chart takes 3.5 - 4 hours to complete.
Approximate total knitting time for Day 4: 7.5 hours.

DAY 5
Finished lace chart repeats and bound off. MODIFICATION: instead of doing 2-inch ribbed hem, did rolled hem to match neckline immediately after finishing lace repeats. Wet-blocked and pinned out lace section only.
Approximate total knitting time for Day 5: 5.5 hours.

DAY 6
Sleeve edging and ties. Steam-blocked sleeves after edging/ties were complete. On one sleeve, picking up 2/3 stitches worked; on the other sleeve, that ratio turned out too large and I needed to pick up every other stitch.
Approximate total knitting time for Day 6: 4.75 hours.

Total time to knit sweater: 41 hours.
