I started this project when I first discovered knitting and Rowan yarns which was definitely before I joined Ravelry. Saw the pattern, loved it and dove straight in. I didn’t know anything about stranded knitting, intarsia, swatching etc in those wide eyed and innocent days.
I think that I started it back in 2010 and knit the back and one sleeve over that summer. I do remember that knitting the intarsia roses was very tedious and by the time I started the second stripe of them did a combination of intarsia and stranded knitting. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was that I didn’t like all the dark rib on the sleeve and didn’t even think about modifying it. Cue putting the pattern away as new and more exciting things came along until 2024.
Last year I knit the front and wove in about two thirds of the ends (there were a lot of ends) on the front and back before putting my Lenora down again.
2025 is my year of finishing off some of my long standing WIPS that are sat there seemingly unloved but I still would like the finished item. With just the sleeves to knit that I modified them as follows to give me bracelet length sleeves. I feel they give a better balance to the jumper. By the time I’d finished sewing up the jumper I’d used every last cm apart from the ends I cut off of the Dark Teal yarn.
Cast on 62 stitches and knit 6 rows of 2x2 rib
Knit 2 rows of stocking stitch and then increased one stitch each end of the next and every 4th row to 106 stitches. Knit 6 rows and then decreased as per pattern.
Joined both shoulders and knit 6 rows of 2x2 rib in the round for the neck.
Added a thin piece of elastic to the neck rib as it felt a bit loose at the back. Probably because I added a few extra stitches to what the pattern suggested in the pick up. The elastic has done its job in securing the neckline.
Overall I’m super happy with this jumper and am now looking forward to wearing it even if it’s 15 years later than originally planned. Perfect for a Scottish summer.
