I modified a pattern called “ “ It’s available on You tube. ill list it later.
I wanted to make one whose eyes would glow in the dark via a blacklight fake candles, glow sticks or any other rechargeable light products available.
I wanted it to look like It was macramed, so I used a khaki color yarn and doubled up on it. Two threads of the same color and size.
I chose a green day-glow colored yarn and a fluorescent lime yarn for the circle shaped eyeballs.I then up-cycled some plastic and abalone buttons I had in my button tin to make 2 pupils. Rather than crochet a beak I used a perfect old wooden toggle button Ive had for 15 years, waiting for a special project.
I started the lantern by crocheting a row of single crochet (sc) around a 3- 4 inch metal ring. It took about 70 -90 stitches. I continued making rounds of SC for about 3-4 inches, before starting a mesh pattern, consisting of a DC then 2 SC then DC., repeatedly.
This mesh, lace-like pattern was chosen in order to create interesting shadows on nearby walls and ceiling when its illuminated. Originally a romantic heart shaped design was planned.Be creative.
Finish mesh pattern til piece measures 7-8 inches. Then using a 10 inch piece of yarn, gather the bottom of your formation by creating a small drawstring like purse.
Created small ears for top of the head on adjacent sides of the bag, leaving a few untied strands. Also made a long 30 inch string to hang the piece.
Will finish by sewing on some beads.
