Modifications for turning the Storm Sweater into a Storm Slipover for Size 2.
Please knit your slipover in this order for optimal results
- Work the body in pattern according to the instructions in the pattern until the slipover measures 2.25 inches shorter than your desired length. Remember to complete a pattern segment.
- Leave these stitches “body stitches” on hold. Because your slipover will draw up “shorten” when you knit the next part which is the neckband.
- Next - Neckband. Using the smaller needle size listed in the pattern, pickup and knit the required stitches for your size. Next knit one round, then follow the neckband directions in the pattern. The pattern calls for a folded over neckband. I chose to knit ribbing for 7 rounds then 2 setup rounds for the Italian BO. Next bind off using the Italian “sewn” bind off.
- Next - Armholes. This is what turns this sweater into a Slipover. (For the size small) Use the smaller needles listed in the pattern, I picked up and knit 108 stitches. I knit 1 round. Then, I proceeded to knit 7 rounds of ribbing. Next, I knit the 2 setup rounds for the Italian BO. Finish the armhole cuff with the “sewn” bind off. Repeat the same for the second armhole cuff.
- Length - Try on your slipover to make sure this is the length you want (minus 2.25 inches). Now you can proceed with the length you prefer. Don’t forget to complete a pattern segment completely before starting the hem ribbing. Before I started the hem ribbing with the smaller needle size, I knit 1 round with the smaller needles then I started the hem ribbing knitting 2.25 inches. Then, I knit 2 setup rounds for the Italian BO. Next, I completed my slipover with the Italian “sewn” bind off.

The pattern tells you how to knit the 2 setup rounds for the Italian Bindoff Technique. The pattern does not tell you how to do the sewing technique needed to complete this bind off.
This is the video I always refer to for the sewn bind off.
