My Dear Husband is a very respectable man. Unfortunately, he is cursed with a wife who is a geek and a nerd about any number of things. I’m attempting to suppress my geekery with this hat. It’s charcoal. It’s got no nerd references whatsoever.

I’m never, ever doing a picot hem without a provisional cast on. This is just daft. Also, picking up the back loops of stitches for the picot was a tad annoying, I had to mark them all out with stitch markers.

So, it’s finished.

Deviations from the pattern:
~I ended up sewing over the picot edge - I must have picked up the wrong side of the cast on edge, because it wanted to flip completely up. Sewing over it meant that there was only the slightest flare of the brim.

Things I would do differently next time:

~I would acquire bamboo dpns, or at least dpns with a sharper point. Picking up for the k3tog was a right proverbial pain in the posterior with blunt dpns, so I ended up using two circs and shifting the stitches around a lot. A LOT.

~Go down a needle size for the body of the beanie. The 12-ply-that-knits-like-a-10 was just a smidge over gauge, and I’d happily use the yarn again if I used 4.5mm needles for the body.
