Knit Picks City Tweed DK is beautiful and extremely soft.
Modifications
- Mitten pattern altered for fingerless gloves.
- CO 48 for 2x2 ribbing on smaller size Double-Pointed needle.
- Switch to US6 DP needle after ribbing.
What I didn’t do, but wish I had
- Made the fingers longer
- Made the thumb a little bigger
Glove Body/Hand
- Rows 1 -21: follow pattern as instructed (approx 4 cables)
Right Hand/Fingers
-
Row 22 thumb: Knit across 26 sts, K 6 sts with scrap yarn, cont pattern as instructed.
-
Continue knitting until desired length. The body of my glove ended up being about 4” (5 cables, approx 27 rows).
-
For the 1st finger (pinky): Using a smaller size needle. place the last 7 stitches before your row marker and the 1st 7 sts after the row marker on a needle. Place all other sts on scrap yarn. CO 2 sts. Divide these 16 sts evenly on three needles. Join in the round and work until desired length. BO.
-
Place the remaining sts back on your larger size needle. Place marker at base of the pinky. Work in-the-round for about 1/4” (about 2 or 3 rounds) to account for the crook between the pinky and the ring finger. You may need to pick up about 4 sts along the inside of the pinky to prevent a hole.
-
Ring finger: place the 9 sts before the marker and the first 7 after the marker onto your smaller needles. CO 2 and work these 18 sts in-the-round.
-
Work the thumb next as pattern specifies. After thumb is complete, try on the glove. You may need to knit two or three more round with the remaining stitches to make the account for the crook between thumb and rest of fingers.
-
Middle finger: Start of the round should be at the center of the base of the ring finger. Place 8 sts before the marker and 8 sts after the marker on smaller needles. CO an addition 4 sts (20 sts). K to desired length.
-
Pointer finger: with the remaining sts, follow the same instructions for the middle finger.
Repeat instructions for Left Hand.
