A Christmas present + stash busting. What could be better?

Mods & Methods:

Cuffs:
After casting on, knit the first row with contrasting colour:
Round 1: C1 k2, C2 k2, repeat.
Round 2: C1 k2, C2 p2, repeat.

20 rows total.

W&t: Cocoknits’ Shadow Wraps and wrap & turns.
SSK: Patty Lyon’s ssk

Shaping at top:
Begin decs on last stripe before top shaping.
Dec 3 rows, knit one row, then dec each row to 12 sts remaining.
Graft the top closed with Kitchener Stitch without ears.

Comments

• If using magic loop method (singular cable needle), read over pattern carefully before beginning as the pattern directions are for and reference double-pointed needles.

• Stitch markers helped with short row & thumb placement, but probably not needed if using dpns.

• My first time knitting short rows with more than one colour. I obviously was not doing them correctly, but didn’t think to investigate proper technique on YouTube. What in the world.

• Love the cuffs. The double yarn keeps the wrists really warm.

• Short rows in mittens. Isn’t this a clever idea? Kudos to Tiina Vaatainen for working it out and creating this pattern.

• The mittens have a nice shape. I knit them to gift as a Christmas present, but I’ll have to knit a pair for myself now (with professional looking turns). They fit my hand better than any mitten I’ve bought or made. Really like these!
