All done! Well… almost. As I mentioned before my plans often do change. This yarn is practically begging me to keep it natural colored, besides I don’t think the nylon thread would take dye. So, I’m not going to dye it, so it won’t match all of my other ski gear, so I won’t bother lining it with fleece. It does however go perfectly with my leather jacket! I will finish it off today with an adorable crochet flower and take a picture of this hat in action as soon as I can :)

By the way this pattern is awesome! I love how the increases turned out. I love how round it is. I love how versatile it is. I love the perfect size. I finished my hat with a K2P2 rib for six rows, then knit for three rows, and “my favorite stretchy bind off”. I love the rolled edge!

Original Post:
My mil went to Branson, MO recently for a family vacation. So, whilst there she decided to purchase for me a skein of fancy shmancy yarn and gave it to me for Christmas! It’s 98% Merino Wool and 2% Nylon. The weight of it varies from bulky to spiderweb. The label says to use US #10 needles, alas I found that to be the perfect size for the chunky lengths and way too huge for the spiderweb lengths so I opted for thinner needles.

It took me a while to find a pattern I liked that I thought would show off the interesting texture the yarn has and be perfect for skiing. As well as use needles I already had, because this Christmas sucked me dry and I really don’t have money to spend. I’ll just be grateful for what I’ve got and make do! (note my mismatched needle…)

So far I’m only a few rows in and I have no idea how to Rinc or Linc as is said to do in the instructions so I’ve decided to replace those with a M1R and M1L - which seems to be working out beautifully.

I plan on dying the hat and lining with fleece when I’m finished, but it seems like I change plans a lot, so we’ll see.

Watch it grow! Lumpy bumpy yarn makes for a lumpy bumpy hat. I hope it looks okay in the end.

It’s hard to knit with the kids home. This hat is taking much longer than it should. That’s okay. Tomorrow Winter Break will be over.
