My daughter recently turned 8 years old! Yay! Happy Birthday, Lily! Her Grandmother (my mom) sent her a Target gift card for her birthday, because she takes after all us girls and loves to go on shopping sprees! We didn’t know how much was on the card when we got to the store (Grandma Evy didn’t write it down anywhere…) So, we took it to customer service to see how much it was. Sixty Bucks!! Holy cow - you should have seen Lily’s face! So we spent several hours looking around the store… when come to find out Target carries apple stuff. Lily has been begging for a Ipod, but now she could get her own - with her own moolah! She got a ipod shuffle and an itunes gift card. Today she downloaded most of the Frozen sound track and a few other girlish ones she has heard on the radio in the car this summer.

And thus this pattern was developed. I grabbed some left over yarn from a baby blanket I made years ago for this very same little girl. It should be known - I can’t remember exactly what yarn brand it was! I think I got it right above, but I’m not certain. It took a few tries to get the size just right. I wanted to make it perfectly seamless; since it’s so tiny! So, it’s worked from the bottom up as follows…

I used this cast on:Casting on for a toe up sock… for 20 stitches. Then I transferred it to 4 dpns and sst for about 1 1/2 inches - just enough to cover the ipod shuffle. I then cast off like so:My Favorite Stretchy Bind Off… and sewed on the button with the remaining tail. To finish it I braided a short amount of yarn (about 10 inches) then pulled the two ends through the top of the back (while wrapped around the button to ensure the correct length) and tied it in a neat knot. You can see the knot in one of the pictures.

Another idea I tried and failed miserably at (but in theory should work) is to work in the round with two needles… You would need to transfer the yarn from the two needles (after casting on) one stitch at a time from each side onto a single needle. Then try this method: Knitting in the Round Straight… Or you could do the aforementioned method for the entire project - but then the bottom wouldn’t look quite the same as pictured.

I think it turned out rather cute. :) My daughter loves it - and that’s what really matters!
