I used a different color for each square. I ended up pinning each square to 9”, off the pins they were 8.5” squares. I used a simple overhand stitch, as suggested, and was very pleased with the result. It was neat, stretchy and light (not bulky). I have enough yarn left over for another one of these. Colors are listed as arranged in the blanket in the top photo - left to right and top to bottom.
7/20 - Last square knit. Tomorrow, I block.
6/27 - 1st square blocked. I pinned it down to 8.5”. Unpinned, it is 8” square. The size 6 needles are a better choice for the yarn. I think a 4 x 4 blanket will be big enough. I’m waiting for more yarn (on order).
6/26 - Yesterday, I swatched with a size 5 needle. KP yarn usually runs a little light, in my experience. I love the result, but thought it could use a little more drape. I ripped out the square and will start over with a size 6 tonight. It took about 2 hours to make that square.
Changes:
-
In round 1 of the lace section, I knit through the back loop, as the stitches resulting from the pinhole method cast on were twisted on the needle (with the right “leg” in back)
-
In the garter stitch section, on round 1 in each repeat, I worked a kfb in the 2nd to last stitch before the marker, not in the last. This made the sides more symmetric, as the little “purl bump” resulting from the kfb was the same distance from the knit column (the 1st stitch after the marker).
For bind off: K1, (K1, slip left needle through both stitches on right needle, K2tog through back loops) repeat in ( )
