I saw this yarn at The Fibreworks - a new knitting, crochet and yarn shop in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire UK. The yarn was displayed in a basket by the till, and I was hooked as soon as I saw it! I had a good rummage until I found two skeins of the same colourway. A proper stash moment - husband looking on asking why I was buying it if I didn’t know what to do with it!
I’ve been wanting to knit a long cowl for while, but I don’t have the right circular needles and so on, so looked for a pattern to modify.
I used my 10mm needles Pony plastic needles. The pattern is loose, and the yarn so soft - so had to be careful the knitting didn’t slip off the other end of the needle.
I followed “Instant Gratification Scarf” for inspiration, but cast on 25 stitches. When I reached the end of the first skein, I joined the second by knitting 2 knit rows with double yarn (tail from 1st skein, start of second skein), then I continued in twisted drop stitch until I was almost to the end of the second skein.
I then picked up 25 stitches from the cast on edge on my “empty” needle, making sure the knitting wasn’t twisted and both needles were facing the same way. I then grafted the two ends together using kitchener stitch.
Darned in the loose ends… and my Holey Cowl was complete! Super-quick knit - taking a total of 6 hours over 2 days.
I love the effect of the twisted drop stitch, and the looseness of the knitting. The yarn is beautiful - I know I will be going back for more.
(Apols if I pinched a name from someone elses pattern!)
