Notes

10/16/2017

Whelp, I wrote zero notes for this project when I started, so I’ll just do the best I can.

Going with size US 4 needles.

Final Length: 27”
Main Body Width: 5.25”

10/22/2017

Took three years on and off, but it’s finally finished. Ironically, this is actually a quick project. Probably only takes a dedicated week or two. Required very little yarn.

The face is not as polished as I would have liked, but it’s good to get the project behind me.

Ended up a little small. Next time I’ll make the scarf a bit longer.

Ears
Used araebailey’s notes as a reference (see my favorites on the sidebar).

Orange (Make 2)

Cast on 12 stitches.
Rows 1-5: Slip 1, k10, p. (12)
Row 6: Slip 1, SKPSSO°, K6, K2tog, p (10)
Row 7 and all odd rows: Slip 1, knit to last stitch, p
Row 8: Slip 1, SKPSSO, k4, K2tog, p (8)
Row 10: Slip 1, SKPSSO, k2,K2tog, p (6)
Row 12: Slip 1, SKPSSO, K2tog, p (4)
Row 14: SKPSSO, K2tog (2)
Row 15: K2tog

White (Make 2)

Rows 1-3: Slip 1, k10, p. (12)
Row 4: Slip 1, SKPSSO°, K6, K2tog, p (10)
Row 5 and all odd rows: Slip 1, knit to last stitch, p
Row 6: Slip 1, SKPSSO, k4, K2tog, p (8)
Row 8: Slip 1, SKPSSO, k2,K2tog, p (6)
Row 10: Slip 1, SKPSSO, K2tog, p (4)
Row 12: SKPSSO, K2tog (2)
Row 13: K2tog

°SKPSSO: Slip 1, K1, pass slipped stitch over

With right sides together and bottom parts of ears aligned, stitch together. Turn inside out.

I attached ears about four stitches from outside edge over 11 stitches.

Notes for Next Time

Writing down some notes about how I knit this. The scarf was knit off and on for about three years so I’m going to have to guess.

For all rows, I slipped first stitch knitwise.

Tail
Looks like I increased by two stitches on the edge every row to 48 stitches, then switched to orange.

Knit in orange for 4”.

Decreased in one row to 42 stitches. Knit in 1x1 ribbing for 3.5”.

Body
Knit in garter for about 13”.

Face
Decreased by two stitches every row until six stitches remained. Knit 2 more inches. BO orange yarn.

With white yarn, picked up 42 stitches on back of work a few rows up from beginning of decreases for face. Knit across for 1 row.

Slip1 knitwise, KFB, K 19, M1, K 19, KFB, K. (45 stitches)

{This section is wrong. Omit M1. Only needed to increase to 44 stitches. I erroneously thought I had decreased the orange face section to 5 stitches instead of the actual six stitches.}

Knit in garter stitch for 1”. Decreased by two stitches every other row until 9 stitches {Only need to decrease to 10 or 8 stitches}. Continued to knit in garter stitch for 6 rows.

Increased by two stitches every other row until there were 45 stitches {As per note above, only need to increase to 44 stitches}. Continued to knit in garter stitch for 1”. Decreased by 3 stitches over final row {Only needed to decrease by 2 stitches to reach 42 stitches}.

BO and sewed white section to main body.
