Notes

My second go at this pattern. This time I’m using the weight of yarn indicated in the directions.

I followed the pattern last time, but I didn’t like the plain edging. This time around I wanted a picot edging. I abandoned that idea after reading several tutorials.

Instead I did the following, as per the Susie’s Reading Mitts:

  1. P
  2. K
  3. P
  4. K
  5. K
  6. (yo, Ktog) for the entire round
  7. K
  8. K
  9. P
  10. K
  11. P
  12. I started at Round 1 of the Growing Leaves pattern

I intentionally did not knit the starter rows (1-3) as indicated in the pattern. There’s a sort of scalloped edge, but I like the effect.

Update 11/20

I followed the pattern directions up through Row 53, then finished with the same 11 rows as I started. I completed three repeats of the pattern.

I finished with a picot bind-off (first time doing that).

This is a big ol’ bulky cowl. It’s not so overwhelming when worn (fortunately). It’ll definitely need to be used with a scarf pin. I think the cotton drapes well, despite being heavy. And speaking of weight, my hands were killing me while knitting the cowl. Ouch.
