I’m so happy I tried this pattern. I’ve wanted to make something more intricate than a scarf, but not so daunting I’d never finish the project. This pattern is very easy for beginning knitters.
I’m making this dress as a Christmas gift for my niece. She’s two right now, and on the small side, so I’m hoping she’ll grow into it. The dress is a nice change of pace from the normal boy stuff I make for my boys. (Although the younger boy does like all the amigurumi stuff. ^=^ )
I originally wanted to use up a couple skeins of pink yarn I had lying around, but after seeing how some people had used cotton yarn, changed my mind. I recently ordered a ton of yarn (24 lbs to be exact) from the Peaches & Creme mill that’s shutting down. At this point, I’m almost finished with the dress, but the cones are barely used. o_O
Due to the combination of me being a novice knitted along with the cotton yarn has left the dress stitches uneven in areas. I’m hoping washing and blocking will help with those issues.
I don’t have a lot of needles, so I’m using a 4.5mm 16” circular needles for the whole dress.
Update 07-22-2011
Yay! Finally finished. Took longer than expected. Thought I could do it in three, but…I guess I’m still a n00b at knitting. I was adamant that I would finish it Thursday, but I actually finished it in the wee hours of Friday (at around 2:30 in the a.m.).
I still need to sew in the ends, wash and block it. Cotton is so unforgiving and punishes you if your tension is perfect. (=_=)
Originally, I tried to finish the shirt/dress on a 16” circular needle, but after I started Hemline #2, knew that wasn’t going to be possible. I thought I upsized to a 5mm circular needle with a longer cord, but I may have gone all the way up to a US 10 >_< Probably because I was eager to finish, but I messed up on the pbaf and switching between P and K on the hem several times. It didn’t help that the pbaf was a new stitch.
Pictures are coming soon…
