Intended for my new nephew, but ran out of time. =__= Too much procrastinating, I guess. But there’s still time to finish for Christmas. I need a short break from all this baby stuff I’ve made lately.
Fairly straight forward. Most of the problems I’ve had is from not paying attention to the written instructions (doh). So far, everything looks right. Not really looking forward to piecing everything together. I’m trying to take everything one item at a time, from the bottom up.
I’m couldn’t find a green I liked from Simply Soft, so I used a sport weight for the frog post section. I’m worried that it won’t create a post wide enough, but I’ll finish the three rings before finishing the post.
On a side note, my son really likes this toy and keeps asking why he doesn’t get one. I have to patiently explain that he’s seven and too old for a stacking toy… ^__^
Update 1/6/2012
Back in action!
After missing the Christmas deadline, I’ve decided to finish this project in time for my nephew’s first birthday.
Finished the bee ring on 1/3/2012.
Crocheted all of the pieces for the lady bug ring 1/4/2012; just need to sew everything together. Ended up doing the head twice because the first one didn’t have tight enough tension. Then realized the head was black and not red. Third time’s the time.
Update 1/11/2012
Got the ladybug finished a couple of days ago. Sewing on the spots didn’t bother me as much as I expected. Still a pain though.
Finished up the dragonfly ring today. Arghh! That was a pain. I just couldn’t get the face embroidered as I wanted. I tried so many techniques, but ended up with French knots for eyes and the same smile I used for the other two rings. I’m really not happy with how it looks.
It doesn’t help that I realized I had sewn the head and wings upside down on the body. It’s not really noticeably, but I know it’s wrong. Totally irksome.
Now to find the green yarn for the frog that I’ve somehow misplaced…
Update
Finally finished! W00t! Only took eleven months, LOL.
I found it incredibly difficult getting motivated to finish the frog head. I knew the eyes would be problematic, so I kept putting the project off. As expected, I couldn’t get the eyes as I wanted them, but I guess they look okay. I decided to go with green eyes, because…well, frogs don’t have white eyes. (@=@)
I’m not exactly happy with the finished project, but I am relieved to complete it. I wasn’t sure I would be able to finish the toy.
My nephew’s birthday is in April, so I finished ahead of schedule! (^=^) On the other hand, the stacking toy was intended as a Christmas gift… (=_=;)
