Notes

This reminds me so much of a patchwork quilt that my mother made for me out of fabrics that I used as a fledgeling seamstress (Jr. High) and I say to myself, “I remember THAT dress!”… This is a compendium of all the sock-yarn/fingering projects I have accumulated over the years and it is bringing me such comfort and joy to my little yarn-y soul. Thank you, Stephen! <3

A note as I begin:
I think I might neeeeeeed to go buy more sock yarn for this KAL!!! Shhhh. Don’t tell my family how much sock yarn I have in my stash! (This isn’t even all of it!!!)

Maybe some Hedgehog Fibers?

03-04-2017

First section of part 1 done… Not sure if it’s going well or not. Are the tails supposed to be along the ‘pick-up’ edge?? For the next section --- is there going to be a stitch left behind for each pair of rows? Not crazy about these instructions :(

03-06-2017

Making progress on 2nd section of part 1. I seem to have a lot of self-striping yarn - definitely more ‘defined’ color changes than the example shawl. I included some beads that were already on some yarn from a beaded sock that I ended up frogging. Kinda weird - but they don’t seem to hurt anything, so I’ll leave them be. I braided the loose tails because they kept getting caught in my ‘working’ circular. Finally found a use for the ‘limp spaghetti string’ circulars I bought from Kollage (ugh!!!) - as a stitch holder along the side of the first part.

03-13-2017

Had to keep ripping back section 3, due to decreasing every 3rd row instead of every 2nd row. Oops! Had minor difficulty with not noticing mohair loops until several rows later. Dropping down to pick them up is complicated in brioche, alas. On to section 4.

03-16-2017

This is awfully ‘busy’ and I kinda-sorta wish I’d stuck to a narrower range of colors. Right now - there’s blue, blue-green, green, purple, a bit of bright pink, and a teeny tiny bit of orange - along with gray. Wondering if I could, at least, redo part 4 and take out the orange. :( Argh!

03-17-2017

Cast on part 5

03-17-2017

Part 6 - Is the decrease supposed to be going along the ‘other’ side?

03-27-2017

Done with part 8!!! Making the ‘large’ size… it’s huuuuuge… Next will be the i-cord border… but first I need to spin the wool/silk/alpaca/mohair fiber I bought at this weekend’s Carolina Fiber Fest… I suppose I should just continue on with sockyarn… but this seems a more fitting end to this project…

04-02-2017

Finished and blocked. Decided to remove the ‘optional’ braided tails… looked pretty messy and there is more than enough yarn-y loveliness without it it. It did stretch with blocking - I’ll need to measure when it’s fully dry and get a finished ‘action shot’. So pleased with how this turned out.
