I made 1 bootie back in December 2017 with size 6 needles and it came out too large.

I almost gave up and tossed it so I wouldnt have it laying around in the WIP pile but I decided to give it another go and frog it.

This time around I used size 4 and it was much better.

My mods:

1. I knit 4 extra rows on the sole
2. I SSK for the right leaning decreases on the sole and before the marker on the toe box.
3. because of the extra rows I picked up 20 stitches on each side - giving me 50 sts. To get back to 46 I decreased after knitting 1 purl round and 1 knit round. I decreased in the middle of each side with K2tog.
4. I added a decrease round after I had 28 stitches: round 13 - knit round 14 - knit to 4 stitches before the marker, SSK, SSK, slip marker, K2tog, K2tog, knit to end (24) round 15 - knit round 16 - begin cuff
5. I only knit 1.5 inches for the cuff
6. my cuff is P1, K1 through the back loop
7. once I was ready to bind off i switched to size 7 DPN’s to do the following rounds: cuff prep round 1. slip 1 purlwise wyif, knit 1 to end 2. purl 1, slip 1 purlwise wyib to end 3. cut yarn with approx. 20 inch tail and thread on blunt darning needle - begin kitchener sewn bind off.
